Dundee United v Saints Preview

In a worst case scenario, Saints could find themselves tenth one point off the bottom by the end of the weekend. If Dunfermline and Motherwell win today and we lose tomorrow, we'll be just one point better off than the pars and the Steelmen, who are currently joint bottom. A defeat would also let Dundee United move ahead of us. So, it's clear we need to take at least something from the match.

Sadly, it looks as if a win is unlikely. We've not won since the end of September, despite being ahead in games against Rangers and Falkirk - whilst we had good chances to beat Inverness Caley Thistle and Motherwell. Our record in Dundee is poor, and it's even worse at Tannadice. Plus, United have won their last two home games on the bounce, so the odds are definitely against us.

On the plus side, there's only one injury worry for tomorrow with Iain Anderson ruled out - not that that makes a difference as he's not played this season anyway! Hopefully the poor form will force Saints manager Gus MacPherson into a few changes. I'd love to see either Stewart Kean or Alex Burke (or maybe even Mark Corcoran) partner John Sutton up front, whilst I feel a back three of Kirk Broadfoot, John Potter and Ian Maxwell is the way to go. However, I don't pick the team - so it'll probably be the same as last week. Hopefully Tony Bullock can live up to one of the unwritten rules of football by having a blinder against his former side.

There could have been some added spice to tomorrow's match, with rumours suggesting Saints were close to signing Craig Brewster - who was sacked by United earlier this season. The move hasn't materialised, and there are rumours he'll be playing for Motherwell as a trialist today. Since Brewster left, Craig Levein has recorded wins over both Rangers and Kilmarnock, whilst a late goal deprived them of a draw at Dunfermline last week. He certainly seems to have things sorted out at Tannadice and has every chance of guiding United to three home wins running tomorrow - the first time they'd have achieved such a feat for some time.
