Dumbarton v Saints Preview

Last updated : 12 July 2005 By Stuart Gillespie
Dumbarton is Saints first port of call before matches against Queen's Park, Stenhousemuir and Ayr United over the next week or so. Then there is the Renfrewshire Cup final (or glorified friendly) against Morton followed by a final friendly against unannounced SPL opposition.

Tonight sees Saints make the short hop across the Clyde for a visit to face Dumbarton. Last year it didn't go according to plan with the Sons winning 3-1. However, friendlies mean nothing as both sides final league positions showed last season. Fitness matters, and it will need a fit player to cope with today's roasting weather.

Tonight is the first chance to see Saints new signings in action, with John Potter, Ian Maxwell and Mark Corcoran all expected to play some part in proceedings. Armand One will play as a trialist, as will former St. Johnstone striker Chris Hay, as the pair try to convince Gus MacPherson that they are worth a contract. Mixu Paatelainen should also play a part as he tries to prove he is fit and should be given another year. Lining up for Dumbarton will be former Saint Mark Dempsie, if he's not injured that is.

It will probably be traditional pre season rubbish tonight, but nonetheless there should be a match report on the game by the end of tomorrow.
