Brechin City v Saints Preview

Last updated : 15 November 2005 By Stuart Gillespie
Saints are on good form, having recently won the Bell's Challenge Cup and their last three league games. We're also top of the league. Brechin have yet to win a league game this season, have picked up just a few draws, are bottom of the table and have only beaten Saints once in their history. So, an easy three points for Saints, right? Wrong! Surely you know by now that we struggle against teams we should be beating.

Saints have some injury problems ahead of tonight's match. Kevin McGowne is likely to miss out after going off injured during Saturday's game against Clyde. There are a variety of changes Gus MacPherson could make to make up for this loss, such as changing to a back four or moving Andy Millen back into defence. Hugh Murray and Ian Maxwell were both missing on Saturday and look set to miss out once more. Hopefully after his goal on Saturday there will be a return to the starting lineup for Charlie Adam, as we look a lot better when he plays.

Brechin are missing a few players through injury, but fortunately Craig Nelson is fit. I've never rated Nelson, and how he has managed to play at the top level is a total mystery (this should ensure he plays a blinder tonight). Former Saints Alex Burns, Scott Walker and Ally Mitchell could all lineup against us, hopefully Burns and Mitchell will turn in the kind of performance that was common during their time at Love Street.

So, we should win which means we won't. Brechin to win 1-0 for their first league victory this season.
