Airdrie United v Saints Preview

It was good to get a break from league action, especially with what happened last week, but now it's back to our main aim. Nine points is a reasonable gap, but could disappear in just a few games. Airdrie United comically overcame a much bigger gap on Morton a few years ago, so the league is far from over.

Saints have the usual injury problems ahead of tomorrow. Craig Hinchcliffe and Kirk Broadfoot have long term injuries and will both miss out, whilst Brian McGinty and Billy Mehmet are also likely absentees. I've lost track of the Ryan McCay situation; he may have match fitness or he may not.

Apart from that, Saints should have a full team to select from as HughMurray will hopefully have regained fitness. It is unlikely that Gus MacPherson will make too many changes to the side that hammered Motherwell last week, although there may be a change in the striking department as John Sutton is fit again.

With Paul Ritchie leaving Brechin City recently, it looks like we've finally got rid of one player who has been a pain in the backside sicne we decided he wasn't good enough for a contract. Step forward Airdrie's Bryan Prunty to replace him. The striker received the Bell's Player of the Month award this week, and was on trial at Saints in the summer, but the club decided against signing him. he's scored nine goals so far this season, ten tomorrow?

As often happens after a cup win, we usually go and lose the next game. I therefore predict a 1-0 win for Airdrie.
