Aberdeen v Saints Preview

Whilst Saints have only lost twice since their last win - and those defeats came at the hands of the Old Firm at Love Street - the fact is the winless run is starting to get a little bit worrying. Getting points is vital, and whilst the draws could turn out to be useful, it would be nice to have a few more victories under our belts. With Dundee United and Dunfermline both under new management, it is important to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

Ian Maxwell last played in Saints last win - against Hibs at Love Street - and could make his return from injury tomorrow. With captain Kevin McGowne being subbed in the first half of last week's match against Celtic, it looks like he'll miss out regardless of the formation we play. If we stick with a back three then Maxwell has a chance at starting, as does John Potter. If we switch to a back four, then Maxwell could play at left back - as could Alan Reid. Whatever we go with, it looks as if there will be changes in defence tomorrow.

That looks like being the only change, however. The midfield has been doing reasonably well recently and with Hugh Murray not yet suspended there's no reason for change. John Sutton's inclusion up front is a no brainer, whilst it looks as if he will once again be partnered by Billy Mehmet. Personally I'd rather we played Stewart Kean to give their defence a different threat to deal with, but I'm not the manager so I don't have any say in the matter!

Aberdeen helpfully beat relegation rivals Motherwell last week and hopefully they can be equally helpful tomorrow and let us have three points. With the turmoil at Tynecastle this season - and Hibs going through a tranisitional period - the Dons must fancy their chances of making it into Europe. With striker Lee Miller seemingly back to his best and fellow front man Steve Lovell finally fit again, they could well do it. Their only cause for concern is Jamie Langfield, who has made a few mistakes whilst keeping goal this season. Fortunately, he looks set to play tomorrow - meaning no place for Derek Soutar, who always plays well against us.
