Summer Rumour Mill Issue 4

Last updated : 01 January 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
Any rumours involving comings and goings at Love Street that have appeared on the web or in the newspapers will appear here. This means I can post dodgy looking rumours on the site and not be laughed at when they aren't true or come true and I missed them. Also listed will be rumours that have been confirmed or denied. A player coming or going without a rumour existing won't be listed.

IN

James Grady:
The last few days have seen Saints linked with Dundee United striker James Grady and manager Gus macPherson has said he'd be interested in the player. United seem keen to get rid of Grady and a few other first division clubs, including Dundee, are chasing him. Grady is hated by many Saints fans because of a shocking tackle on Norrie McWhirter ten years ago. Two years ago Saints thought they'd signed him, Stewart GIlmour effectively saying as much, but he chose Partick instead. Now it looks like the deal may be back on.

Andy McLaren: Another Dundee United player Saints have been linked with is Andy McLaren. He's another one United want rid of and they sent him on loan to partick Thistle and Greenock Morton last season. However, it seems extremely unlikely that he'll be heading for Love Street.

Armand One: Saints need a big, tall, physical striker and Armand One is certainly one of them. Unfortunately he's not a very good one, having a head shaped like a fifty pence piece and hitting the ball out the ground on many occasions. He was released by Partick at the end of last season and had apparently been seen out on the town just a day before an important match. The rumour comes from a reliable source so it is possible One could be in a Saints shirt next season. At least he has a cool name.

OUT

Kirk Broadfoot:
No issue of the Rumour Mill is complete without a story linking Kirk Broadfoot with a summer departure. This time Rangers and Wolves have been suggested as possible destinations. Whatever.

Craig Hinchcliffe: Saints start goalie Craig Hinchcliffe has been linked with a shock transfer move to Dundee United over the past few days. United are on the lookout for a new keeper after Tony Bullock's move to Gillingham, but Hinchcliffe has just signed a two year deal so they'd need to give us a fee. It's also unlikely that he would be willing to go full time, although he might for SPL football.

Mixu Paatelainen: Despite having agreed to stay and prove his fitness before talking to other clubs, Mixu Paatelainen is still being linked with moves away. Partick Thistle and Linfield are just two of the clubs apparently interested in him.

CONFIRMED

Allan Russell:
Rumours suggesting Allan Russell would be leaving Love Street have made it into the first three issues of the Rumour Mill and now it's finally happened. Saints have withdrawn the offer of a new contract and he is now going down south to try his luck.

NOT HAPPENING

Ross Forsyth:
A Saints fan on another site made up the rumour that we were after former St. Johnstone player Ross Forsyth. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't true and this week he signed for Stirling Albion.

Simon Mensing: Simon Mensing was one of several Clyde players linked with a summer move to Saints, but he has opted for the Fake Saints instead.

Danny McBreen: Falkirk's Danny McBreen was linked with a move to Love Street, however he decided to sign a new deal there instead.

That's all for this issue but there will no doubt be more rumours soon with pre-season training resuming on Monday.
