Summer Rumour Mill Issue 3

Last updated : 01 January 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
The idea is that rumours that I list rumours that have appeared on the web or in the papers here, along with news on which previous rumours have been denied or confirmed. If a player signs or leaves without a rumour then he won't be listed.

IN

Chris Iwelumo:
Wishful thinking from one Saints fan on another website who has heard that former Saint Chris Iwelumo is looking to leave his current club and is on his way back to Scotland. Unlikely to be with Saints.

Danny McBreen: Falkirk's Danny McBreen has surprisingly been linked with a move to Love Street, despite the first division champs wanting to hold on to him. McBreen is the sort of player we are after and apparently Mark Corcoran's dad said on another website that we were interested, so maybe it is possible.

John Sutton: The brother of Celtic star Chris, John Sutton was linked with a move to Saints and Greenock Morton in the Greenock Telegraph, who clearly pick up their news from Saints websites. Sutton was on loan at Dundee last season and did well, and it is expected Millwall won't stand in his way if he wants to leave. Might be a bit out of our price range.

OUT

Kirk Broadfoot:
Once again there are rumours that Kirk Broadfoot will be on his way in the summer. Depending what you believe there are English clubs interested, along with Rangers. Extremely unlikely to happen in my view.

Mixu Paatelainen: No new contract yet for Mixu Paatelainen as he needs to prove his fitness over the summer to win a new deal. Rumours are that he's decided to leave anyway, although nothing has been confirmed by the club.

Allan Russell: Allan Russell still hasn't signed a new deal but still hasn't found himself a new club. Apparently he isn't short of offers so he could well be moving on.

CONFIRMED

Mark Corcoran:
The worst kept secret ever involving Saints, Mark Corcoran's arrival was confirmed a few weeks after the season ended.

Ian Maxwell: The last issue of the Rumour Mill suggested we might be signing Ian Maxwell, and it was confirmed just after we played St. Johnstone.

John Potter: It's been on the web for months that we would be signing John Potter, and it was finally announced after the end of the season.

NOT HAPPENING:

Billy Dodds, Brian McPhee and Keigan Parker:
On the day that we signed Corcoran, Saints boss Gus MacPherson said we weren't signing any of that three. Not that any sane person thought we were.

Ricky Gillies: There were suggestions that Ricky Gillies might be going to Morton and, whilst he has been released for Saints, it is likely he will sign for Partick Thistle instead.

Ian Harty: Some people thought Clyde's Ian Harty had definitely signed for us, however he decided to sign for Hamilton instead.

That's all for this issue, and, as someone might once have said, keep watching the web.
