Summer Rumour Mill Issue 2

Last updated : 01 January 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
Every so often I'll post rumours that have been on the web regarding comings and goings at Love Street over the summer. Starting from this week I'll also list those that appeared in previous editions that have been confirmed and those that won't be happening. The number of rumours which turned out to be true from the first edition is quite impressive, so hopefully there will be more of the same in this one.

This section only deals with rumours and confirming previous ones as fact as fiction, so transfers or frees that were announced by Saints without rumours won't be here. Hence no mention of Laurie Ellis being released.

IN

Ross Forsyth:
If this is true I'll be shocked, considering it started with someone on another website adding two and two and getting several million as the answer. St. Johnstone's Ross Forsyth is out of contract in the summer and we need a left back, so it's an outside chance I suppose.

Ian Harty: Depending which website you read you'd think that Clyde's Ian Harty had already signed for Saints, however that's not true. Harty is out of contract in the summer and there is interest from Saints, but it's unlikely that we'll be able to sign him with big spending Falkirk and Clyde also wanting him. Keep an eye on this one, though, as it could still happen.

Ian Maxwell: Another St. Johnstone player we're apparently interested in and has apparenly already signed a pre contract with us. His deal is up in the summer and we could probably do with a left footed centre back, so maybe there's some truth in this.

Simon Mensing: Another Clyde player we're rumoured to be interested in, thanks to Scotsport's David McKinney and his magic envelope. Will be interesting to see if he is coming to us or not.

John Potter: This rumour has been on the net as far back as the January transfer window. It is believed he is in David McKinney's magic envelope and is one of the three players who have signed for Saints and will be playing for us next season.

OUT

Kirk Broadfoot:
Once again the rumours of star defender Kirk Broadfoot leaving for Falkirk have surfaced, with suggestions that Saints have turned down an offer of £50,000 for him as we want double that. Sounds total nonsense to me as we'd be after a lot more.

Ricky Gillies: It's already been announced that Ricky Gillies is leaving the club, but a day before that it was rumoured he was on his way to Renfrewshire rivals Morton. Unlikely, and the Morton boss has denied it, but I suppose if he's desperate it could happen.

Allan Russell: OK, so technically not a rumour Allan Russell is leaving the club, however he could stay if we offer him an extended deal. Apparently he's sold his house and is moving abroad, although there is rumoured interest from an SPL side.

CONFIRMED

Mark Corcoran:
The club haven't confirmed the signing of Marc Corcoran it but Hamilton boss Allan Maitland, Scotsport's David McKinney and Corcoran himself all say that the talented left winger has signed for Saints.

Mark Crilly: You didn't need to be a genius to work out Mark Crilly would beleaving in the summer and the club have confirmed he's already away.

John O'Neill: John O'Neill's contract was up in the summer and the rumour was he was going to Queen of the South. Within days of being told he was leaving it was announced he'd signed a pre contract agreement with them!

NOT HAPPENING

Keigan Parker:
There wasn't much chance of rumours linking Blackpool's Keigan Parker with a move to Love Street being true, and so it proved with him signing a new deal at Blackpool.

Ryan Stevenson: It was rumoured that St. Johnstone's Ryan Stevenson would be joining us back in January, and the man himself recently confirmed he almost did. However, with another year on his contract and new St. Johnstone boss Owen Coyle playing him it's unlikely he'll be moving to the Real Saints.

That's all for this issue, there will be another when there are a decent number of rumours on the web.
