Summer 2012 Rumour Mill Issue 1

Last updated : 05 June 2012 By Stuart Gillespie

It's a long time since we did one of these - January 2010 to be exact, back when Gus MacPherson was still in charge and we had yet to play our League Cup semi-final against Hearts.

It's a simple idea, basically a list of various rumours picked up from the internet, papers or gossip. Some may be true, most are probably nonsense. If between issues a rumour appears here that is proven to be true or false I'll say so, but as the last issue was two and a half years ago there's no point doing that this time around. Any rumours or signings that don't appear here first won't make it into future issues. Simple!

IN

Phil Airey: One of a number of Newcastle kids we've been linked with who has been let go by the Magpies.

Fouad Bachirou: French midfielder who has been playing for Morton for the past few years but apparently capable of doing a job at a higher level. Wanted by a number of clubs but would be a decent replacement for the departed Hugh Murray.

John Baird: Former Buddie has already signed a contract with Dundee but supposedly we're trying to get him to change his mind.

Tomas Cerny: We need a goalie, the former Hamilton keeper needs a club. May well be after too much money and is only just coming back from injury.

Ryan Donaldson: Young striker being let go by Newcastle. Supposedly wanted by St Johnstone at one point but other Saintees signings could mean he ends up coming to Paisley.

Kris Doolan: Decent striker at Partick Thistle (you'll notice them cropping up a few times) who could be ready for a shot at the SPL.

Brian Easton: Available on a free after being released by Burnley but will almost certainly find himself a club down south.

Farid El Alagui: This rumour keeps bouncing around even though Danny Lennon has denied it and he'll probably end up down south.

David Healy: Almost certain to leave the financially crippled Rangers but extremely unlikely we could afford to pay his wages.

Steven Kinniburgh: There were rumours in February we had the former Rangers youngster on trial. If there was interest then it's not beyond the realms of possibility it could be re-ignited.

Greg McDermott: Another former Newcastle man we're supposedly keen on having a look at.

Dylan McGeoch: Scored a wonder goal against us last season - partly because no one tackled him. May be joining us on loan for the coming season.

Simon Mensing: One of those rumours that seems to pop up every year and nearly always turns out to be nonsense.

Franco Miranda: We need a new leftback and the Argentinian has been linked with a return but I'd imagine the chances are fairly slim.

Patrick Nzuzi: Ex Newcastle youngster who is now a free agent, the defender has already had a spell on trial at the club.

Garry O'Connor: A ridiculous rumour for numerous reasons. Just not going to happen.

Sam Parkin: Not the most agile of strikers and probably not good enough for the SPL after leaving Queen of the South.

Aaron Sinclair: Big centre half at Partick Thistle who is attracting interest from some decent English clubs. Seems to be a good first division player and could be worth a shot but under contract for another year.

John Sutton: We tried - and failed - to bring him back in January. Not beyond the realms of possibility that we have another go at getting him.

Dan Taylor: Former Newcastle youngster was on trial at Saints at the end of last season and is welcome back if he doesn't get himself another club.

Jure Travner: Another former leftback linked with a move back to Paisley - but the man himself said on Facebook he knows nothing about it.

Tony Watt: Highly rated young striker who scored twice on his Celtic debut last season. Possibility he could come to us on loan to get some first team experience.

OUT

Nigel Hasselbaink: Well, he has gone and it seems almost certain he'll sign for St Johnstone, although a few other clubs were sniffing about.

Paul McGowan: Always going to be linked with a move after last season's displays and Crystal Palace are still rumoured to be sniffing about, manager Dougie Freedman visiting the final game of last season.

Kenny McLean: Another attracting interest from down south with Burnley continuing to track his progress.

Gary Teale: Suggestion he may go to Partick Thistle, who he apparently supports, but he's on relatively high wages and it's unlikely the Jags would be able to afford him.

Jeroen Tesselaar: Another one that, like Hasselbaink, has already gone. Kilmarnock look his most likely destination although there was interest from Dundee United.
