Summer 2006 Rumour Mill Issue 3

Last updated : 29 August 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
The idea is simple. If a rumour involving a Saints transfer appears on the web, in a newspaper or somewhere else, it's listed here. I also list details of rumours that have turned out to be true or false. If a player signs with no rumour being mentioned on here, then no details of it will be listed until the next edition.

With the transfer window just having a few days left, this'll be the last issue for a while. So, without further ado...

IN

Chris Katongo:
Some African website today claimed we were interested in Katongo, who has been on trial with Aberdeen and Dundee United. However, the latter couldn't afford his transfer fee so it's a bit unlikely!

Tam McManus: The former Hibs striker has been released by Dundee and may not cost too much. However, he's not as good as he thinks he is and his scoring record isn't actually that impressive.

Charlie Miller: The former Rangers midfielder is currently playing in Norway but is looking to return to Scotland. Seems unlikely we'd be able to afford him however, plus we've got plenty of midfielders as it is.

Alex Neil: Of all the rumours listed here, this one is most likely to turn out to be true. Neil is a midfielder at Hamilton, and Saints have been interested in him before. The source for this one seems half decent, so he could well make the move to Love Street before the end of Thursday.

Keigan Parker: Apparently he is unhappy at Blackpool, however he's another like McManus in that he isn't as good as he thinks he is. We probably wouldn't be able to afford him either.

Chris Sutton: Well, we do have his brother playing for us! Extremely unlikely as we couldn't afford him, however it did make it into the PDE. We did also try to sign Big Dunc remember...

Robbie Winters: Saints need an experienced striker, and Winters is one of them. Another player who is enjoying life in Norway but apparently he also wants to return home. Again, finances could rule this one out, which is a shame.

OUT

Tony Bullock:
The English keeper has found himself out of the first team starting lineup this season, and there are rumours Saints boss Gus MacPherson isn't a fan. Could he be on his way out?

Ian Maxwell: Another one who has had an alleged bust up with MacPherson over not getting a game, and it would explain why he wasn't even on the bench on Saturday. Probably not true.

John Sutton: I've seen him linked with Ipswich and Blackpool, among others, however it all seems to be a load of nonsense. Still, you never know. We did surprisingly sign him on transfer deadline day last year.

CONFIRMED

None, it's been quiet since we signed Alex Burke.

NOT HAPPENING

Charlie Adam:
Sadly, Charlie as part of the first team picture at Rangers now and won't be returning to Love Street.

Craig Hinchcliffe: Rumours of a loan deal to Forfar turned out to be just that: rumours.

Jim McIntyre: MacPherson's former team mate from his Kilmarnock days signed for Dunfermline a month ago.

John Rankin: Saints didn't renew their interest in the Ross County midfielder and he signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Derek Young: Thankfully, the lesser talented of the Young brothers (and that means he must be really bad) signed for Partick Thistle recently.

That;s your lot for this transfer window, let's hope someone signs before the end of Thursday. Preferably the other Sutton brother...
