Usual suspects for pre-season

Last updated : 21 June 2011 By Stuart Gillespie

The Saints squad began pre-season training yesterday and will be in Scotland for the rest of the week before heading to Portugal for a training camp. They'll return at the end of the week, with the first friendly a closed doors game at Queen's Park on Tuesday, July 5.

Four days later we head to Ayr and on Tuesday, July 12 it's off to Dumbarton. The following Saturday is the Renfrewshire Cup Final at home to Morton, with the final friendly away to Danny Lennon's old team Cowdenbeath on Tuesday, July 19.

Once again there are no home friendlies (the Renfrewshire Cup nonsense doesn't count). Surely we could have got one - even if it was just against another Scottish side? Why does our park need more protection than every other SPL side?

Still, we keep being told it's too expensive to have friendlies at home, so hopefully the money we get from Ayr and Dumbarton can fund a new player.
