Two out, none in

Mirren Mad reported last night that there was a possibility McQuade was on his way and the striker was released from his contract at lunchtime. He wasted no time finding a new club, quickly signing for second division East Fife.

The striker was one of the many players who followed Danny Lennon from Cowdenbeath last year with Darren McGregor now the only one left. McQuade started just one game for us, against Peterhead in the Scottish Cup - when he scored his only goals. More often than not he was injured and barely got a chance when he was fit.

Sending Kennedy on loan is a bit of a surprise. When McGregor got injured earlier this month we were short of defensive cover, so in came Ilias Haddad. Kennedy going to Dumbarton - which should get him some first team experience - means we're back to just three centre halfs.

The departures mean Saints currently have a first team squad of just 22 - and that includes the injured McGregor and Aaron Mooy, with the latter set to join the Australian national side when he gets fit to help them qualify for next year's Olympics. That's not exactly a big squad, especially as the better youngsters who could have provided back-up have gone out on loan.

There were also suggestions last night that Kyle Hutton would be brought in on loan from Rangers and those rumours have rumbled on today, but as yet nothing has happened. There have also been reports linking us with a loan move for his Ibrox team-mate John Fleck, but that seems rather unlikely!
