The lifelong Saints fan has been linked with the club every transfer window since we were promoted and Danny Lennon made a proper bid, rather than a made up one, for him in January. That fell through due to a change of management at Burnley, but Real Radio (admittedly not the most reliable of sources) is tonight claiming the striker - who has also played for Dundee United, Rangers and Cardiff - is done.
Thompson was let go by Burnley last week and said he planned to come back to Scotland. Rumours of him signing for Saints have increased in the past month or so and it looks like this time it could be true.
While Real Radio are saying Thompson has agreed to join us, as of yet there has been nothing from the club - and I don't recall seeing Lennon even quoted on the matter anywhere - so it's still a case of wait and see.
