Sutton Red Card Overturned

Last updated : 30 December 2005 By Stuart Gillespie
Sutton was sent off for apparently using an elbow on Queen of the South's Jim Thomson. Saints boss Gus MacPherson claimed not to see the incident, but felt that Sutton hadn't used his elbow and it was just a clash of heads, something backed up by the fact Sutton had a big bruise on his head.

The SFA have agreed that the red card was not merited and so the big striker will not be suspended or have the points added to his disciplinary record, which is good news.

It is apparently the second time in recent months that this particular referee, Steve Conroy, has had a red card overturned. Anywhere else this sort of incompetence would mean some sort of punishment or penalty, however in Scotland he probably gets told to keep his chin up before being handed the next Old Firm game!
