Smudger out of Accies game

Last updated : 20 March 2009 By Stuart Gillespie
Suspicions were raised over a possible injury to one of our goalies when goalkeeping coach Paul Mathers appeared for the reserves during the week instead of Mark Howard. Now we know why. With Smith injured, there was no point in risking Howard and getting him injured too.

The full extent of the injury won't be known until next week, and as we have a fortnight until our next match there's a possibility Smudger could be back sooner rather than later. However, one well connected message board poster believes his season is finished.

Howard has played for most of the season but was dropped for the game against Falkirk last month and has been out of the starting line-up ever since. Smith's performances have been mixed, with many fans feeling he should have been dropped after his disaster at Parkhead when we lost 7-0. However, with Howard apparently dropped due to a contract dispute, Smudger kept his place and performed well in the cup win over Celtic.

Despite that, some fans still wanted Howard in tomorrow and now they'll get their wish. Fingers crossed he has a good game after being out for the last month.
