Smudger joins Pars

Saints boss Danny Lennon made public last week the fact he was looking to offload a keeper as he also had Paul Gallacher and Mark Howard on his books, while goalkeeping coach Paul Mathers is still registered as a player. Gallacher attracted interest from St. Johnstone and Howard was wanted by Aberdeen, but it seems Smudger is the one to leave.

Smith came through the youth system at Saints, making it onto the bench at the end of 2003. He made his debut towards the end of the 2004/05 season and that year also helped the under-19s finish second in a number of tournaments. He was a key part of the 2005/06 double winning side - playing in the Challenge Cup final - and saw off a challenge from Tony Bullock to keep his place for most of the following season.

Despite Howard's arrival in 2007, Smudger kept his place apart from when he was ill and we had meaningless end of season games. However, the following season Howard was in place until the New Year, at which point Smith got a run out. He was in goals when we were gubbed 7-0 by Celtic at Parkhead - and was still there when we beat them 1-0 a week later! However, that turned out to be his last game for Saints as he then picked up a serious knee injury that ruled him out for some time.

Last season he was loaned to Dunfermline in December in a bid to regain fitness, only to break his foot! He rejoined them a few months later and finished the season at East End Park, and it now seems he's joined them permanently. One can only assume this means Gallacher and Howard are staying.

All the best Smudger.
