This is a blow for Saints but is almost tragic for Smudger. After being on the sidelines for so long, it looked as if he was getting close to returning to the first team squad when he was sent to the pars for some match practice. After playing a few games, it has now emerged he'll be out for two months with a broken foot. Interestingly, he played in one of Dunfermline's games with the broken bone before realising there was a problem!
