The goalie arrived from St Johnstone in the summer keen for first team football and to provide competition to Craig Samson, who was given number one status following the departure of Paul Gallacher.
However, Samson has been in good form for most of the season - even earning a call up to the Scotland squad - so Smith has been left kicking his heels on the bench. It was therefore little surprise to learn today he'll be released in the summer.
Smith has still to make his debut for the club, with Samson having played every minute of the season so far, and it's unlikely he'll be handed a one off appearance at Pittodrie on Saturday.
