Sergei For Petershill

Last updated : 05 August 2004 By Stuart Gillespie
Sergei left Love Street during season 2002/03. and ended up at Millwall until the end of the season. However, he was then out of football for over a year after having surgery on his back. He had a trial with first division rivals Queen of the South a few weeks ago, but was unable to win a deal (partly because he named his price then disappeared when he didn't get it). He has now signed for junior side Petershill, and will combine that with working in a bank.

It's a big fall from grace for Sergei, who was part of the Saints team that won the league. He has some Scotland under 21 caps, and was always rumoured with a big money move down south, even having a trial with Southampton. Frankly I could never understand why as he was poor.

Sergei comes from a sporting family; his sister Elena is Britain's top female tennis player, and his dad Sergei was a top footballer in his day and even managed Saints for a game.
