Sammy set to leave

The keeper's current deal expires in the summer and it had been hoped he would sign a new one. However, manager Danny Lennon has revealed the offer of an extension has been turned down - although hasn't hinted if a counter offer will be made.

Motherwell seem to be leading the race for Samson as they expect to lose Darren Randolph in the summer. If they do make an offer we have a problem as we're unlikely to be able to match whatever the Steelmen throw at him.

Samson arrived at Saints three years ago as back-up to Paul Gallagher, taking over the number one slot when Gallagher returned to Dunfermline a year later. I'll admit I had more than a little concern about him being our regular goalie, but he hasn't missed a game in the past two years and has forced his way into the Scotland squad on a couple of occasions. He was also instrumental in our League Cup success due to the penalty shoot out at Pittodrie, his save from Charlie Mulgrew in the semi-final and some top stops in the final itself.

Hopefully he can be convinced to stay but if he does go he'd undoubtedly be a huge loss. It'll be interesting to see if a new keeper is brought in or we decide to give Grant Adam - who hasn't played for the first team since signing in the summer - a chance to establish himself even though he has yet to play an SPL game.
