Saints Question Gretna's Plans

Last updated : 14 May 2007 By Stuart Gillespie
Gilmour's concern is that Gretna have lodged groundsharing plans for a season while failing to demonstrate how they will have an SPL standard stadium in place for season 2008/09. He is also frustrated that the club have been given dispensation, while Saints had to pay £200,000 to install undersoil heating despite having similar plans for a new ground.

He said: "I can confirm St Mirren Football Club have written in an official capacity to the SPL seeking clarification on Gretna's promotion for next season.
"Obviously, they have a plan to share at Motherwell's Fir Park but, as I understand it, have not delivered any build contract guarantees for a 6,000-seater stadium under the criteria."

This would make sense if there was something saying Gretna had to have these plans in place. However, to the best of my knowledge there isn't. A club can groundshare for as long as they want. They don't need to have plans for a new ground.

As much as I'd love to see Gretna denied promotion, I don't think it's very likely.
