Saints Fined £25,000

Last updated : 13 February 2006 By Stuart Gillespie
The confusion came thanks to the rules being changed from last season, which allowed any two under 21 players, rather than outfield ones. The team shets last weekend still contained the old rule, and referee Charlie Richmond said no rule was being broken. Thus, Saints named a squad with Charlie Adam and goalkeeper Chris Smith being the under 21 players, breaking the rule.

The fine is a bit drastic, especially when you consider that Spartans had pointed out this error to Richmond before the game. In effect, we have been fined a considerable sum of money by the SFA because one of their officials doesn't know the rules!

Still, could be worse, we could have been kicked out of the cup.
