Saints 0-1 Morton

Hopefully this result is just a blip and will bring a few folk back down to earth after the recent hype. Pass marks go to Barry Lavety and Mark Crilly, the latter looking like a great find if we can just calm him down a wee bit. He was lucky not to be booked early on after just missing someone with a wild tackle, but was booked for a similar offence later on in the half. Within minutes he had tried to cripple someone else but got away with it.

Morton had chances early on, but Peter Weatherston wasted them much to every one of the Saints' supports delight. Apart from a period near the end of the first half, Morton dominated it. Saints did hit the woodwork through Crilly, and Basher came close.

Saints started the second half well, though once again a short corner showed us up and Morton almost scored. Basher did get himself onto the scoresheet, kind of. A Morton corner found Stewart Greacan and his header deflected in off Barry. Oops! After this Basher had a few chances, including forcing a great save from Morton's keeper, and came close from the resulting corner. Overall though, Morton deserved it especially as Kevin McGowne looks shakey at the back.

Craig Hinchcliffe looks a good signing after pulling off some great saves. There were two trialists playing, Dougie Ramsay and a lad from Blackburn Rovers. Ramsay looked rank, the Blackburn guy wasn't bad.

The worst performers were the officials, who were simply awful. The funniest decision was when McGowne clearly won the ball and got booked!

It was slightly better than last season but not much. Apologies for the poor report but I dunno quite who everyone is yet!
