Phil O'Donnell 1972-2007

The midfielder may only have played for Motherwell, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday during his career, but there will be very few people connected to Scottish football - be they fan, player, manager, journalist, official or something else - who will not be shocked by this news.

Phil started his career at Fir Park, scoring in their Scottish Cup win over Dundee United in 1991, before moving to Celtic. He moved to Sheffield Wednesday with Simon Donnelly in 1999 before returning to Motherwell in 2004, where he has been ever since. During his career, he also collected one Scotland cap.

No doubt everyone's thoughts are with everyone connected with Phil, such as family, friends and supporters, especially his nephews: Saints player Stephen O'Donnell and also David Clarkson - who had to be subbed such was the state he was in after seeing his uncle and team mate collapse.

May he rest in peace.
