O'Brien Heading For South Africa

Last updated : 15 August 2004 By Stuart Gillespie
O'Brien was only part of the Saints first team for a season, and had hardly played any games before being snapped up by Blackburn Rovers, along with team mate David McNamee. The pair never played for Blackburn, and returned to Scotland a few years ago when they signed for Livingston. Both players have been superb, winning the CIS Cup and McNamee winning a Scotland cap. However, there hasn't been one for Bobo, and it seems there won't ever be one.

Bobo was born in South Africa and still has family there, and has received confirmation from FIFA that he can now play for the country of his birth. Scotland can't really complain, as Nigel Quashie is now "Scottish" despite having England B caps. Berti Vogts should be shot for letting such a star talent slip away.

Good luck Bobo, hoppefully you'll qualify for the World Cup in Germany in a few years, and be playing for South Africa when they host the tournament in 2010.
