No ins, no outs

We still need a striker, the defence is still leaky but what did we do this transfer? Sign another holding midfielder - probably the last thing we needed.

It was obvious before today that there wouldn't be anything happening, but you always carry that glimmer of hope a signing will materialise from nowhere. However, with SPL clubs either bringing on players or shoving folk out the exit door, we did nothing - although there is still talk some players could end up at Galway United on loan as their transfer window is different to ours.

I refuse to believe we couldn't have brought in someone on loan from an English side, like a youngster they want to get experience. And why not follow the lead of other clubs by paying off players who are clearly surplus to requirements in a bid to free up a wage slot?

But the most stupid thing of all is using our only wage slot to sign Jim Goodwin. With all due respect to him, we did not need another player like him - especially with other areas in the team needing more attention.

Transfer deadline day has always been a let down for us. I can remember Graham Carey, Chris Birchall, Paul Lawson and Jim Hamilton coming in since we were promoted, all with varying degrees of success. In fact, the most exciting deadline day was in 2005 when we signed John Sutton and Charlie Adam - but back then we were still in the first division.

Let's just hope our lack of business this month doesn't see us return there in May.
