News Round Up

Saints new phyiso will probably generate a few inches of column space for the tabloids over the coming season, basicaly because it's not a he, it's a she. Karen Stark has a failry big background in sports injuries, something boss Tom Hendrie said was vital instead of a normal phyiso, and she will also be running her own business from the sports centre, similar to the way Andy Binning used to.

Albion Rovers have signed ex Saint Jim Dick. Dick left Love Street several years ago for Ayr United after a disagreement with the manager at Saints (can't remember if it was Jimmy Bone or Tony Fitzpatrick at the time). It's rumoured among the fans that the move was also a pay off to Bill Barr to stop him coming after us for a bit longer. Dick starred in at least one of Ayr's famous victories over local rivals Kilmarnock, before moving to Boston United, then Clydebank, before becoming part of Peter Hetherston's revolution. Seeing as he won't be playing against us, unless it's in the cup, good luck Jim.

Aberdeen are currently giving a trial to Omer Riza. Riza could have ended up on loan at Love Street for a year last season if he hadn't gotten injured in a friendly. Then West Ham United had an injury crisis and wanted to keep him down there. Nothing else came of the move, which was a shame as Riza was the sort of player we needed as he was a fast striker. He didn't manage to score in Aberdeen's recent friendly against Montrose but will be given another chance to impress against Brechin City.

John Hillcoat is currently training with Saints, however we won't be signing him. Hillcoat had some outstanding appearances for us last season, including a superb game against Raith Rovers. He was only on a short term deal with us and wasn't resigned, but was told if we sold one of current goalies Ludovic Roy or Kris Robertson he'd be signed up. We haven't sold them so Hillcoat is a free agent. He's training with Saints as he's a PE teacher and the schools are on holiday, so he needs to keep himself fit. Despite his fine performances, he hasn't had any concrete offers which is a bit strange.

The Official Site reports that Brian Launders is currently training with Saints and could play against Norwich on Saturday. No idea who he is, though I've heard he is a midfielder and used to play for Crystal Palace. Due to injures, everal young players could play on Saturday, including new signing Kirk Broadfoot.

Finally, again from The Official Site, it is expected Inverness Caledonian Thistle will make a decision on Steven McGarry sometime today, though whether it will be announced I'm not sure. McGarry has been training with Caley for the past few days and if the move took place it would simply be a move between clubs, with no fee requested.
