News Round Up

The new sponsor is, surprisingly, Braehead Shopping Centre. The deal is said to be worth a six figure sum to the club and it is not known how long the deal runs for, though it should be for a few years. It is a surprise to me as why do Braehead need to advertise? And when do folk go shopping: Saturday afternoons! Still, shouldn't complain and it is an impressive sponsorship deal which, strangely, wasn't announced until after the planning decision meeting. The plans to wreck Paisley Town Centre continue apace.

Also revealed last week was our pre-season schedule, which looks boring and uninspiring as usual. I'd have preferred to see the trip to England come to fruition but you can't win them all I suppose. Here is the schedule, nicked from The Official Website

Thu, July 14th, Queen's Park v St Mirren, venue and kick-off time TBC.
Sat, July 16th, Stenhousemuir v St Mirren, Ochilview Park, kick-off: 3:00pm
Tue, July 19th, Ayr United v St Mirren, Somerset Park, kick-off: 7:30pm
Sat, July 23rd, St Mirren v Morton, St Mirren Park, kick-off: 3:00pm
Tue, July 26th, St Mirren v SPL opponent TBC, St Mirren Park, kick-off: 7:30pm

Friday saw the draw for the first round of the Bell's League Challenge Cup and Saints landed a home tie against Forfar Athletic. The two sides met in last season's league cup and we were hammered 5-2 at home, so let's hope we can avoid a repeat of that! The match will be played at the end of July and is our first of the season.

There have been no new signings whilst I've been offline, but there have been a few rumours so hopefully I can do another edition of the rumour mill later on in the week. One of the released Saints has found a new club though, Laurie Ellis returning to recently relegated Raith Rovers.

Finally, there is talk on Black and White Army of Saints fans putting together various DVDs. To read about it go to http://www.blackandwhitearmy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9337
