Mixu Stays, Russell Leaves

Last updated : 16 June 2005 By Stuart Gillespie
It was previously thought that Mixu would have to prove his fitness in order to still be a Saints player next season, however with recent speculation linking him with moves to Partick Thistle and Linfield, among others, the club have acted quickly to keep ahold of him. No contract has been signed, but a verbal agreement between Mixu and Saints chairman Stewart Gilmour has been made. Mixu is not only a good player but a good coach, with the under 19 team having a fantastic year last season.

With one striker staying, another has decided to leave. Allan Russell was offered a new deal two months ago but decided to reject it. Saints boss Gus MacPherson has given up waiting and has taken the deal off the table, no doubt thinking that if Russell hasn't signed by now he isn't too bothered about being with us next season. Russell clearly thinks he is better than he is and is heading off to England for trials. He joins Hugh Murray (who came back), Mark Roberts, Ludovic Roy, Kris Robertson and Paul McHale in rejecting offers in the hope of something better. All of those players, except Shuggy obviously, ended up with worse. No doubt the same will happen to Russell.
