McPhee Linked To Liverpool!

Last updated : 23 November 2004 By Stuart Gillespie
Liverpool are currently struggling for a striker, with Djibril Cisse and Milan Baros both out for various periods of time. Having sold Michael Owen in the summer, they are now left with youngsters such as Neil Mellor, not an ideal situation.

There are various problems with any move, however. The transfer window is closed until January, and it seems FIFA rules mean McPhee can't move twice in a season. Beira Mar would also be looking for a big fee for the striker.

Liverpool's chief scout watched McPhee recently and said: "He is a player that we have checked on already before coming here and we know he has done well in the Portuguese championship.
"I do not doubt he is a young player with a lot of value, in the match with Sporting he did not shine but he worked hard and always tries for the team."

McPhee was with Saints for a few months during our time in the SPL, signing on loan from Coventry in March. He did well, but failed to score. Most Saints fans were desperate to keep him, but he moved to Port Vale instead. he earned a Scotland under 21 cap there and did really well in his last year with them, attracting interest from Leeds and Bristol City before going to Portugal. A Scotland call up is surely in the offing.
