McHugh, who is held in high regard by the coaching staff at Greenhill Road, has yet to make his debut for the Saints first team although has been on the bench a few times. With Graeme Smith now fit and Craig Samson in decent form, the chances of him getting a game were slim.
As a result, sending him on loan is a good move. Young midfielder Jamie McKernon was recently loaned to Ayr and scored for them in one of the cups, so it's a move that can have benefits for both the player and the two cubs.
