McHale Takes Part In Clyde Idol

Once again, Clyde find themselves with a new manager and not many players. Former Rangers man Graham Roberts said last week that any players who wanted a trial was to phone the club, forgetting to add the word professional. Apparently he received 2,500 phone calls. The number was whittled down to forty or fifty who are on trial at Broadwood at the moment. The good ones will be invited back for pre-season training.

Former Saint Paul McHale is one of the players who got himself a trial, having been with Cowdenbeath last season (though I don't remember hearing about him being released by them). McHale was on loan at Saints from Rangers in the second half of 2002/03. John Coughlin wanted to keep him when Rangers released him but he decided against it and, after a trial with Hibs, ended up at junior side Sauchie, before signing for Cowdenbeath last summer.

Thank god Coughlin didn't get to keep McHale as he was useless, missing sitters and acting like a ghost in midfield. Apparently he was one of the better players in yesterday's training session. God only knows what the rest must be like.

McHale was on Scotland Today last night saying he felt he could do a job in the first division and that he had previously been with Rangers and Cowdenbeath. Saints were missing from his list of previous clubs, can't possibly think why...
