McGeoch told to withdraw legal threat

Last updated : 01 April 2012 By Stuart Gillespie

McGeoch has been leading a consortium looking to buy a controlling interest in the club and had used the services of Rangers company secretary Gary Withey, showing the lawyer confidential documents. Chairman Stewart Gilmour went public about this a few weeks ago and led many fans to believe there was some evil plot to turn Saints into Newco Rangers - complete nonsense of course.

McGeoch reacted by saying he had contacted his lawyers (presumably not Withey) about the claims. Last Tuesday the board issued a statement saying McGeoch had 48 hours to resign or there would be an EGM called - at which point they'd vote him off. That deadline passed, although seems to have been extended to the end of Monday.

Now the board have told McGeoch he must also withdraw the legal threat. This is an odd demand to make - unless they have some serious dirt to dish what can they do to him if he doesn't withdraw the threat what else can they do? They're voting him off the board anyway so they have no other punishment to hand out.

Very strange - and things will no doubt get much stranger before this sorry saga reaches its conclusion.
