McAvennie To Have Benefit Game

Last updated : 24 August 2002 By Stuart Gillespie
The reason given in in The Sun today is that it's a chance to say goodbye to a football legend, and McAvennie says he's not in it for the money. Why have a game at all then?

I'm totally against this but thought I might as well report it anyway incase some people want to go. I'm not, don't see the point in going to a benefit game for a player who I saw playing for Saints about 3 times, and that was in the 90's. He isn't exactly deserving of a benefit game in the way Norrie McWhirter and Kenny McDowell were, and it's not as if his career was cut short by injury.

I'm also still annoyed that he was part of the deal which saw Chris Wreh move to Love Street :-)
