The Daily Record and the Scottish Sun both claimed today that gaffer Danny Lennon was weighing up a move for the striker, who is currently training with Morton. However, the Evening Times this afternoon poured cold water on the rumours.
Hopefully it's the Evening Times that is right. MacDonald is capable of playing well, but his fitness record is shocking and is strike rate is far from great. There's also the fact he's hated by St Mirren fans for a tackle cunningly disguised as assault on Andy Millen in 2005. We'd have been better off keeping Craig Dargo or Gareth Wardlaw.
The Record story also suggested there could be a couple of trialists with the Saints squad when the players head out to Portugal for a training camp later this week.
