Lennon hits back

Last updated : 27 March 2012 By Stuart Gillespie

Lennon issued a rather lengthy statement on the club's website today, going for the manager's old favourite of being misquoted by the press. On this occasion he may just be right.

Media reports at the weekend suggested Lennon had indeed claimed the Buddies had produced the best football in the SPL this season. They then quoted him as saying we played the best "in terms of expansive and open football". Either he believes there is a subtle difference or is claiming that a number of papers have made things up.

In his statement, which can be read at http://www.saintmirren.net/pages/?p=11382, Lennon still insists we have tried to be open and expansive but there is still plenty of work to do to get results and have us moving up the table.

It's a rather odd move as it's probably not the first time Lennon feels he has been misquoted or taken out of context and probably won't be the last. But today seems to be the day for Saints folk releasing statements...
