Saints were one of a number of clubs interested in the striker, along with Swansea City and Falkirk. He had claimed he wanted to stay in Scotland, and had been at Love Street for talks a few weeks ago.
Brentford is former Saint Jamie Fullarton's current club, although that may be wrong as he decided not to turn up for their pre season training!
