Lappin Wins Goal of The Month

Last updated : 04 April 2004 By Stuart Gillespie
I can't remember the last time a Saints player won a goal of the month award on either channel, though we've had a few nominations along the way.

Lappin's goal was an absolute screamer. A good cross from the right from Russell was met with a stunning volley from Simon at the edge of the box. It was unstoppable. On Scotsport the following day, Walker said you'd struggle to find a better goal in Britain, and he said today he feels it is the goal of the season.

Simon's goal wasn't the only Saints goal up for the award, with Mark Crilly's strike against Brechin also a nominee. God knows why, it wasn't exactly brilliant and Hugh Murray's goal a few days before against St. Johnstone was far better. Surely they didn't mess up with the camera ;-)

Interestingly, the prize was won by someone called Arthur Bell. Either this is an incredible coincidence, or Scotsport's prize really was won by our youth development officer!

Congratulations to Simon and Arthur, if it is the same one.
