Keogh Signs For Caley

Last updated : 02 August 2002 By Stuart Gillespie
Liam Keogh came to Saints on loan from Celtic just before the transfer deadline last season. He was meant to play most games so as Saints could decide whether to sign him or not, however he got injured after coming on for his debut against Raith Rovers. It was reported that he didn't show up for pre season training, but did feature in the second half of Saints friendly with Norwich City, playing up front with Junior Mendes. He didn't do too badly, but then disappeared again and it seems he was on trial at Caley and has now signed for them. He links up with Paul Ritchie, who Saints rejected as not the sort of striker they were after. Ritchie went on to score about 20 goals last season, whilst Saints top scorers were Brian McGinty and Jose Quitongo on 6. Oh dear. Odds on Keogh doing the same?

Now for a full run down on all the former Saints who are on the move. It's in alphabetical order of surname.

Martin Baker: Released by Kilmarnock

Gary Bowman: On trial with East Stirlingshire, expected to play with them this weekend, and could play against Saints in the league challenge cup. Oh dear.

Tom Brown: Signed for Dumbarton, where ex Saint David Winnie is the manager.

Alan Combe: Expected to sign for Bradford soon from Dundee United, if they get their finances sorted.

John Dempster: Released by Stranraer. No club yet.

Jim Dick: Released by Boston United or wherever he was. Signed for Albion Rovers.

Stephen Donnachie: No club yet.

Iain Ferguson (someone would moan if I didn't include him): Signed for some mob in Australia after leaving Dunfermline Athletic.

Jamie Fullarton: Released by Dundee United. No club yet.

Brian Hamilton (is he still playing?): No idea what he was doing, no idea if he has a club.

John Hillcoat: Has been linked with Ayr. No club yet.

Liam Keogh: Signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Barry Lavety: Training with various junior teams. Has reportedly lost a lot of weight. No club yet.

Steven McGarry: Signed for Ross County, Saints letting him go for nothing.

Paul McKnight: Has been linked with Glentoran and Coleraine in Ireland. No club yet.

Barry McLaughlin: Signed for Kilmarnock a few months ago, bringing Saints around £30,000.

Hugh Murray: On trial at Mansfield Town, hasn't signed yet.

Iain Nicolson: Signed for Ayr, where he has supposedly being playing sweeper in pre season.

Burton O'Brien: Has been linked with a loan move from Blackburn Rovers to Crewe Alexandra for a season.

Jose Quitongo: Move to CD Badajoz in Spain has apparently fallen through. Now being linked with Kilmarnock, who are managed by his former Hearts boss Jim Jeffries. No club yet.

Derek Scrimgour: Has been linked with Dumbarton and Ayr, and was on trial at Queen of the South before they signed Andy Goram. No club yet.

Lee Sharp: Released by Ayr United. Signed for Stranraer.

George Shaw: Released by Stranraer. No club yet.

Stuart Taylor: Released by Airdrie after they went bust. Signed for Irish champions Drogheda after being linked with Ayr United and Falkirk.

Tommy Turner: Signed for league newboys Gretna, where former Saint and Morton player Rowan Alexander is manager.

Scott Walker: Signed for Dunfermline, paid out his contract with Saints.

Moussa Dagnogo, Maikel Renfurm, Jens Paeslack: Don't know and at the moment, don't care.

Surprisingly, no former Saints have signed for Airdrie United. I am aware the likes of Stephen McPhee and Graham Fenton aren't there, but they don't have new clubs. If you know of any ex Saints I missed, or any details on these ones I have missed, please e-mail stu@stmirrenfc.net with the info.
