The young midfielder, who is apparently attracting interest from a number of clubs down south, provided the corner for Islam Feruz to head the young Scots in front. Feruz doubled the lead before the break but Portugal hit back in the second half and ran out 3-2 winners, with McLean subbed 15 minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Craig Samson was an unused substitute for the full Scotland side as they won 2-1 in Luxembourg.
