It won't be McDowall

McDowall, part of the 1987 Scottish Cup winning side, was one of the favourites for the job, at least among Saints fans. He has extensive coaching experience from his time with both Rangers and Celtic and would have been an interesting appointment, even though he has no managerial experience. Tonight's news at Ibrox rules out any chance of him taking over?

So, who will it be? Rumours have quietened down in the past few days (the nationals are too busy making up stories about players going from Rangers to Celtic). Former Ger Arthur Newman, who currently coaches Holland's under-21 side, has popped up on a few messageboards but seems unlikely - and there's no time of an appointment any time soon.
