Here's what you may have missed

A quick recap first. Yesterday saw the club's selling consortium demand the resignation of fellow director Ken McGeoch because he'd allowed Rangers' company secretary Gary Withey to look at confidential documents. If he didn't resign then there would be an emergency general meeting where he'd probably be voted off the board. In the evening the BBC reported that McGeoch was prepared to walk away.

Today's papers haven't added a great deal new - publishing part of the consortium's statement and McGeoch's response. However, there are two pieces of information I found interesting.

You may remember the board claimed they were unaware that McGeoch had shown Withey the documents in the boardroom at Greenhill Road. That meeting took place in November, the board saying they didn't know until January.

But from today's Scottish Sun: "Yet SunSport has seen a November 24 email from McGeoch to the club asking to book the boardroom specifically to meet with Withey the next day. An email reply later that day confirms there were no objections."

So not only were the club aware that McGeoch was meeting Withey, they failed to take issue with it. Now, the article does not mention who at the club confirmed the meeting wasn't a problem - but I don't think it's too much to assume that the board have to approve the use of the boardroom!

Of course, even if the board knew that McGeoch was meeting Withey there is no guarantee they knew of his role at Rangers. But if you take that line you have to consider McGeoch didn't know either.

The other interesting piece of information came from the Paisley Daily Express: "He teamed up with business partner Paul Davies to make a £2million offer for a 52 per cent controlling stake in the club being flogged by Gilmour and four other directors."

Now, we know McGeoch made a bid - he said he had last week and hadn't had it acknowledged - but we didn't know how much it was for. However, the PDE is saying he made a £2million offer - the asking price the consortium has put on their shares. If that is the case you have to wonder where that much money was coming from - and why the board didn't accept it when they were apparently unaware of Withey's involvement at this stage.

No doubt there's plenty still to come on this rather messy affair.
