Hegarty is last man standing

Hegarty, who has signed a one year deal, plays predominantly on the left side of midfield but can fill in at the back if required. The 24-year-old has spent his entire professional career with Grimsby - having been at Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday as a youth player - although he's had loan spells at Whitby Town, York City and Willenhall Town.

He played the majority of Grimsby's games between 2007 and 2009 but featured just six times last season as the Mariners were relegated from the Football League. He was let go earlier this month and came to Saints on trial. He seems to have done enough to convince manager Danny Lennon to give him a one year deal, now he has to convince the fans. We needed to strengthen the left midfield slot, but whether a guy whose career record is patchy is the answer is anyone's guess.

As for the other targets, Gow - who we'd been chasing for the best part of 10 days - decided to sign for Swindon, only for that deal to fall through as he wanted too much. He's still a free agent, as is fellow target Stuart Duff, but it's fairly certain they won't be coming to Saints.

Trialists Euan Holden and Greek midfielder Christos Veletanis joined Hegarty in today's bounce game against Celtic but won't be getting signed, meaning Lennon has finished his signing spree.
