Haining appeal lodged

Last updated : 11 August 2008 By Stuart Gillespie
The appeals process will involve referee Eddie Smith looking again at the incident and deciding if he feels the red card was the correct decision. Now, to a normal person the fact Haining was being fouled by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink would be enough for it to be rescinded. Unfortunately, Smith isn't normal and probably reckons his decision was the correct one.

The appeal is likely to be heard before Saturday's game against Kilmarnock, which means Haining will probably miss it. Good to see that both the referee's chief and a former referee have sided with Smith in today's newspapers, while just about everyone else has said he is wrong!
