Saints captain Jim Goodwin can expect a meeting with the SFA at Hampden in the near future after it emerged TV footage appears to show him punching Motherwell's Steven Jennings during yesterday's match.
The trouble flared up early in the game after Jennings had made a bad tackle on Kenny McLean. Goodwin and Jennings had a bit of handbags and the pair were both booked - a caution that looks set to hand Goodwin a ban as it apparently takes him over the disciplinary points threshold.
However, it seems referee Calum Murray may have missed something, with the BBC claiming their cameras show Goodwin throwing a punch - something backed up by the account of a few Motherwell fans.
If the SFA choose to take a look at the incident, which they surely will, then they could charge Goodwin with violent conduct. If found guilty, he'll be handed a two mathc ban - but that will increase as it will take him even further over the points limit.
If Goodwin has thrown a punch then he deserves what he gets, but there used to be a rule where a player could not later be given a ban if the referee had already booked him for the offence. So, while the SFA may decide a punch has been thrown, they may not be able to do anything.
Ironically, Goodwin has been getting plenty of plaudits this morning for his stunning equaliser in yesterday's match - a goal he apparently shouldn't have been on the park to score!
