Gallacher and Barron set to stay

Last updated : 17 May 2011 By Stuart Gillespie

All four are out of contract this summer and have been offered new deals. It is a surprise if Gallacher is going to stay as he is one of our higher earners and has been wanted by St Johnstone in the past. If he sticks around, as yesterday's Evening Times claimed, it is definitely good news.

Today's Evening Times has Barron quoted as saying he wants to sign his contract this week. This is something of a U-turn from him as in August he turned down a long term contract. Obviously a season struggling with injury has convinced him to stick around and if he's fit he'll be a key member of the squad.

It's no surprise that Higdon could be off (the Evening Times for that one again). You could almost hear his agent burning copies of the DVD as he smacked in that hat-trick against Hamilton and he should have offers from down south.

Travner's departure was also expected and he has been linked with a club in Russia. There were rumours the former Watford man had agreed a new deal, but today he posted on Facebook (none of your Twitter nonsense here): "guys I'll let you know first if I'll stay in St. Mirren but at this moment I honestly don't know. I would like to but we'll see what's gonna happen..." Hardly the most convincing of comments, although it doesn't mean he's going to leave.

One player who definitely won't be playing for us next season is John Rankin. He is linked with us on a regular basis but the former Hibs man has been snapped up by Dundee United.
