Former Saints on the move

Last updated : 05 June 2011 By Stuart Gillespie

Clubs in pretty much every division in Scotland and even in England have been cutting back, so there are plenty of players up for grabs. here's a wee look at the former Saints who are on the market - or likely to be sold on.

Aberdeen have managed to bin two former Buddies, neither of whom was there for very long. Mark Howard only left Paisley for Pittodrie in the summer, while David McNamee only joined up in January. Fellow northern side Inverness Caley Thistle also let go a former Saint, with Chris Innes wanting a return to the central belt. He is tipped with a move to Dunfermline, who have released Alex Burke after their promotion to the SPL. John Sutton was out of contract at Motherwell but chose to leave, and his move to Hearts saw the Steelmen nick Michael Higdon. Thanks for that!

In the first division, Falkirk have released McNamee's pal Burton O'Brien while Stuart Taylor has left his role as Hamilton's assistant manager following their relegation. Stewart Kean's stint at Morton has been a short one as he has been released. Lower down the leagues, Stirling let go Paul McHale (hard to think it was eight years ago he was with us) but he has now joined Stenhousemuir. They have also let Tom Brighton go, having signed him a few months ago, while Cowdenbeath have got rid of John Dempster.

Lee Sharp has retired from football after leaving Stranraer - although is still a coach at Clyde. Scott Gemmill has left Airdrie, although it wouldn't be a surprise to see him return there. Jim Hamilton is looking for yet another club after leaving East Fife and fellow veteran Andy Millen has left Queen's Park, while former Saints boss John Coughlin is now in charge at East Stirling.

Down south, Swindon let Scott Cuthbert go, but the former Celtic man was quickly snapped up by Leyton Orient. The only other former Saint likely to be on the move down south is Charlie Adam, who looks set to leave Blackpool in a multi-million pound deal.

As for the players we let go? Garry Brady has signed for Brechin, John Potter has been linked with Dunfermline and Gareth Wardlaw could return to Ayr. It's all quiet on the rest of them and at some point in the near future I'll get round to adding their details to the former Saints page.
