They suspected him of being a drink driver, however after he passed a breath test he admitted to being on drugs. Last August he was fined £300 and banned from driving for 15 months (which makes you wonder why the story has emerged today).

Muir was released by Saints last summer and moved to third division Elgin City. A club source has revealed that Saints were aware the police had stopped Muir, but hadn't realised this was why. They go on to claim that this was not the reason the young midfielder was released by the club.

The SFA have announced that they will now investigate the manner. Muir is not the first Saints player to be involved in a drugs scandal, as in the mid 1990s Barry Lavety was sent to a rehab clinic after admitting taking ecstacy.
