Former Saint Going To Wigan?

Stephen McPhee arrived at Love Street on loan from Covetnry, on the recommendation of then Coventry boss Gordon Strachan. The young striker quickly became a fans favourite, also winning the SPL young player of the month for April. When Coventry released the 19 year old Scot at the end of the season, the club were desperate to sign him and had, supposedly, agreed a verbal deal before he went on holiday. When he came back he said he was signing for Port Vale, which was a disaster for Saints. Despite not scoring whilst on loan with us, his pace proved very useful and Saints only lost one game when he was here, to Celtic at Parkhead.

McPhee scored about 15 goals last season for Port Vale and also earned a Scotland under 21 cap. A wee note for Berti Vogts if he's reading: get Stephen in the Scotland squad as he's better than some of the rubbish thats there at the moment! Wigan are in division 2 in England, the same as Port Vale, but usually fight at the top of the table. A few years ago they signed a few Motherwell players, and also beat Saints 2-1 in a pre season friendly at Love Street last summer.

It seems a term has been agreed between Port Vale and Wigan for Stephen, however the personal terms are holding things up. The deal could even be off but I thought I'd report it anyway!
