Fans Celebrate As Planning Permission Granted

The stadium was expected but the supermarket wasn't. A planning recommendation issued on Friday said that permission should not be granted, sparking off a mass campaign of e-mails, letters and a petition which reached over 3000 when it was handed to the council!

In the end the councillor's voted 9-5 in favour of the proposals, one more than was needed. Some idiotic councillor finished is political career in Paisley by voting against it and saying he was doing what was best for the community and wouldn't be intimidated! See you down the job centre after the next elections my friend!

Thirty or so Saints fans were inside at the meeting with a few hundred (!) outside looking in. When the result of the vote was announced there were loud cheers and chairman Stewart Gilmour had to make a speech when he got outside.

There is still a long way to go in the process. The plans have been referred to the Scottish Executive and it could take a while for them to be rubberstamped, although no problems are expected. It is looking at the moment that it will be about two years until it's all sorted, but the good news is we're safe.

Thank you to everyone who e-mailed and signed the petition, it's been worthwhile!
